Fables Club, Readers’ Hub

Online interactive Readers Club nurturing curiosity and confidence, guiding children to enjoy books, share stories, and develop a lifelong love for reading.

Discover the Joy of Reading

Fable Club is an online readers’ club that inspires a love of books. In small, guided groups over 6 weeks, children explore, discuss, and enjoy complete stories. Fun, informal, and free from worksheets, our safe, supportive space helps kids read for pleasure, share ideas, and build confidence while growing as young readers.

Get Started

Children choose a book from our website and join a small club of up to 8 members. They receive their own copy of the book by post and, over 6 weeks, read together while taking part in fun, engaging discussions during a weekly online Zoom meeting.

Our Reading Journey

Fable Club sessions last 45 minutes, during which children read chapters, discuss the plot, characters, and vocabulary, and can read aloud if they wish. Using their own books—not screens—kids enjoy a fun, interactive, and engaging reading experience that builds confidence and fosters a lifelong love of stories.

Nurtured by Expert Teachers

A teacher will support and guide the discussions, adapting their role to the needs of each group to ensure sessions are both engaging and challenging. They will ask questions, encourage conversation, and give children the freedom to share their own ideas.

Onward & Upward

After each Zoom session, children read a few chapters on their own and can make notes as they go. Each meeting begins with a discussion and answers to questions. If a child hasn’t finished, the next session starts with a short summary so everyone stays on track and engaged.

What age group are the book clubs for?

Our fable clubs are designed for children aged 5 to 13 years old. Each club is tailored to a specific reading level so every child can take part confidently

All our Fables club sessions are held online via Zoom. This allows children to join small, interactive groups from the comfort of home.

Clubs are typically between 4 and 7 children per book club.

Phonics and Fables works smoothly on all major web browsers, and all live sessions are conducted online via Zoom. Learners will need a reliable internet connection, along with a working webcam and microphone, to participate effectively. We recommend checking your device setup and internet connection in advance to ensure a smooth and enjoyable learning experience.

Please bring the following to every class:

  • The book- for the current read
  • Enthusiasm and excitement- to share the joy of reading together!

Each book club runs for six sessions of 45 minutes. Sessions take place weekly and include fun discussions, comprehension, and creative activities

The book is thoughtfully structured and covered evenly across six sessions:

  • First session: Introduction to the readers and the book
  • Middle sessions: Guided reading and group discussion
  • Final session: Reflection and shared discussion
  • Final session: Discussion and reflection
  • Independent reading: Encouraged at home to help children gain the most from each session. If a child is unable to complete the reading in advance, we will briefly recap before moving ahead.
  • Reading guidance: After each session, children are guided on the independent reading to be completed before the following week.

This structure ensures a balanced mix of reading, discussion, and reflection, making every session engaging and meaningful.

You may connect with us to reserve your space. Once we receive your enquiry, our team will get in touch to guide you through the advance payment process and confirm your child’s place in the Fables Club.

Due to the nature of peer learning in Fables Club sessions, we are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions. However, guided discussions are incorporated into each session to help bridge learning for any missed classes. While individual make-up sessions cannot be provided, we will make every effort to support your child by revisiting key chapters covered during their absence, ensuring continuity in their learning experience.
